Full-stack publishing platform for a pediatric physical therapist

Designed and built a Next.js and Postgres publishing platform for a licensed pediatric physical therapist: a custom block editor with pre-publish checks, reader accounts, comments and saved posts, authenticator sign-in for staff, branded email and scheduled publishing.

Who it helps
Parents and caregivers of children from newborn to age five, and the physical therapist who writes for them several times a week.
What I owned
Everything: product decisions with the author, the design system, the Next.js app, the Postgres schema and migrations, authentication and security, email, tests, and deployment on Vercel and Railway.

How FitTrack+ is built

Two Apple clients, one API, one database and a web client. The hard part is keeping the iPhone and the Apple Watch on the same workout, and the case study walks through how.

How FitTrack+ fits togetherShipped system · simplified

In words

  • iPhone app → Apple Watch app: Versioned session snapshots.
  • Apple Watch app → iPhone app: Set actions + live metrics.
  • iPhone app → Spring Boot API: HTTPS · idempotency-keyed workout logs, offline replay.
  • Next.js web client → Spring Boot API: Proxied HTTPS, first-party cookies.
  • Spring Boot API → MySQL: Reads and writes.

Merged on 11 days, busiest September 21 with 15. Newest: sentence-transformers #4248, Correct the DDP evaluator note in the training overviews (opens in a new tab) (October 23).

Every one is mine and merged by the project's maintainers, between September 13 and October 23, 2026. Reviews of other people's pull requests aren't counted.

Keep new sparse search corpora from sharing an index name

New sparse search indexes were named after the current second, so two created in the same second collided: Qdrant rejected the second one, and Elasticsearch and OpenSearch deleted the first index and replaced it. Names now end in a UUID, the helpers no longer delete a colliding index, and reusing an existing index works as before.

The test freezes the clock and runs two builds against one real in-memory Qdrant database. Elasticsearch and OpenSearch got source review, not live-server tests.

  • Performancemaziyarpanahi/openmed#3540Merged Oct 16, 2026

    Remove quadratic list-boundary copying

To find where each list item ended, the materializer sliced the rest of the item list on every pass (seeds[index + 1:]), so a flat list of n items copied about n²/2 references. One backward pass with a monotonic stack now finds every item's end, and each item enters and leaves the stack once. Offsets and nesting are unchanged.

12 focused regression tests on synthetic lists, and the full suite passed with 21,548 tests and no failures. Building the text slices still scales with their total size, so I didn't claim a production speedup.

- Present
  • Fixed sentence-transformers search index collisions with UUID suffixes to prevent existing indexes from being deleted; tested with a frozen clock against in-memory Qdrant.
  • Fixed an OpenMed cache race by treating entries deleted before a read as cache misses; verified with 8 deterministic tests.
  • Reduced OpenMed list-boundary detection from quadratic to linear work using a monotonic stack; 12 regression tests and the full 21,548-test suite passed.

So far: 35 merged pull requests in OpenMed and 10 in Hugging Face's sentence-transformers, as of October 26, 2026. See every one.
